ForeWord Reviews is pleased to announce the 2012 Book of the Year Awards list of finalists. Representing more than 700 publishers, the finalists were selected from 1300 entries in 62 categories. These books are examples of independent publishing at its finest.
“From Preschool to Grad School: Strategies for Success at Any Level of Competitive Admissions” by Kim Palacios is a finalist for the 2012 Book of the Year Awards in the Education category. This ubiquitous guide to navigating admissions in the information age exposes patterns found across application processes and deconstructs the vital role they play in candidate success. In doing so, it answers that critical and elusive question: “what are the best schools really looking for?“ giving readers equal doses of newly-relevant advice about the role of social media, admissions consultants, and helicopter parenting, while also helping them master fundamentals that will never change.
Kim Palacios is an alumna of the Baldwin School, the New York University Gallatin School of Individualized Study and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where she was a Robert W. Fogel Distinguished Fellow. She began writing professionally in 2009, after a lifetime infatuation with the craft; her writing on travel, entertainment, and finance has won recognition including a 2009 Book Passage Travel Writers and Photographers Conference 2nd Prize for her essay “I Dreamed of Africa”, and syndication of her columns for various news outlets on dozens of sites, including The Huffington Post. She is quadrilingual, a studying Sommelier, and an epicurean zealot.
ForeWord’s Book of the Year Awards program was created to highlight the year’s most distinguished books from independent publishers. Award winners are chosen by librarians and booksellers who are on the front lines, working everyday with patrons and customers.
